The story began long ago in Miami Beach, Florida. As time went by, I had many unexplainable problems and many ups and downs. Life was difficult and blurry. One day, my friend, Jean Jaques, told me, Gideon, I have been watching you and I believe you should check your tefillin. At that time I did not pay attention to him but I didn’t forget what he told me. One day before the Holidays, Rabbi Citron, from the Shul of Bal Harbour, said, who ever wants to check the tefillin, let me know, because I am going to the Sofer to check mine. I told him that I am interested, and that my tefillin will be checked so I gave it to him and several days later he returned it to me with a note from the Sofer. The note said the tefillin are weak and have too many mistakes. Rabbi Citron told me that the Sofer also told him that if I have extra money I should buy a new pair. As time went by I had the opportunity to go to the Ohel with the father and sons trip. We had a heavy schedule for a one day trip so we started Shachrit at the airport. Rabbi Citron said we will continue at the Ohel because it was Rosh Chodesh. So when we arrived to the Ohel, I ask Rabbi Citron if we have the time to put on the tefillin. He replied yes, so I put on the tefillin. Somehow as I have finished immediately, I had removed the Rabbaino Thom tefillin, and then I asked myself, why did I do it. Not waiting until we finished Kriat Hatorah but I had to leave it alone. After we finished our mission in the Ohel, I asked Rabbi Citron where I can go to look for tefillin for my son, Rafael. He told me to go to the main street and I will see places that said Sofe. Knock on any door and talk to them. I went to the main street and as I walked through the street, I passed a few doors that said Sofer, but I didn't walk in. I continued to go and I stopped one guy and asked him if there are any more Soffrim. He pointed and said there is one right here and his name is Moshe Klein. I knocked on the door and a young guy helped me find tefillin for my son. As we finished negotiating, I asked him, What do you have for me? He said, I have something for you, and then he said, why do you need for yourself? I explained to him that not long ago I had checked my tefillin and the Sofer said they aren't good. He asked me were did I buy the tefillin and I told him in Miami Beach in the Shul of Bal Harbour. So the minute I said The Shul of Bal Harbour he jumped and said it is impossible. I asked him why he was getting angry- I came here to look for tefillin for my son, and nothing else. He said to me, Where are the tefillin?, and I told him, In the bus, but I know where the bus is. He asked me to go and bring them to him. I told him I might not have enough time, but he insisted. But my son told me that we didn’t have enough time, because we needed to look for a hat. So we left and I got him a hat. I decided to look for the bus.
Then an amazing thing happened. I had found the bus, but not the bus driver. As I was debating with myself, I decided that I should go and join the group. All of a sudden a guy from across the street yelled, Hi, are you looking for the bus driver? I said, Yes, so he pointed at him. Then he opened the door and I got the tefillin and rushed to the Sofer.
When I got there he shouted to his boss that these were his tefillin. He got very emotional and without hesitating, he opened them. I told him I didn’t have enough time for this, but maybe I can come back later. I found out that with living day by day, we need to connect to the Rebbe and when you go the Ohel it might have the answer to all your problems.
